From the Illinois Times:
Three generations of experience, trust and integrity of the Floyd family have built Floyd Imports into this year’s winning auto detailer and service shop. The Floyd website spells out the family’s philosophy. “We believe in doing only what’s necessary, nothing more nothing less, so our customers are back on the road safely and without surprises.”
Brothers David and Eric Floyd opened the business in 1994, and a succession plan is now coming to fruition. Eric’s son, Andy, started working at the shop while he was in high school and has been a full-time employee since 1998. Andy is now an owner and is running the business with his father, who plans to transition to part time in the coming year. Josh Kidd joined the business as the service manager following David’s retirement.
Kidd described the full-service diagnostic, maintenance, repair and detailing services he considers unique in the industry.
“We’ve developed a reputation of trust over the years,” Kidd said. “We don’t do what most shops do. We treat people fairly. We treat people like family. Our business is built on repeat customers and the referrals of those customers. Over time, relationships form.”
One unusual policy is paying the service technicians a salary instead of by the job. Having salaried technicians leads to better quality work, Kidd said. “They take their time and do the work right the first time. I believe that’s fairly unique in the industry.”
When it comes to detailing, Kidd is effusive. “Shandra is the best detailer in town. She is amazing. The results speak for themselves. She is very, very thorough. She takes her time while working efficiently. The end result is a car that comes out in near-new condition. All of our success (in the past year since starting to detail vehicles) is because of Shandra. We wouldn’t have detailing without her.”
